The DanAmp effect:
DanAmp K20 is an electrical water softener, which uses an electrostatic field and induction in the pipe system to create a change in the chemical structure of calcium ions and magnesium ions in the water.All over the world you will find calcium in the water. The hardness of the water will vary from place to place, but you can always find the hardness of water as it is measured by the term dH [deutsche Hartegrad]. We distinguish between two main shapes of calcium in the water:
  1. The one is calcium in carbonate shape [CaC03], calcium bicarbonate [H 2CaCO3], etc.. This is the shape everyone knows because you see it on tiles, in the lavatory, percolator, the coffee machine, on heating elements, and on the inside of your pipe system. This calcium is calcium as deposits visible, porous and rugged.
  2. The second shape of calcium is dissociation in the water as calcium ion. This means as single atom of calcium [Ca++]
To dissolve calcium carbonate [CaCO3] which is the chalk we find in the underground, you need a weak acid in the water. Simplified, rain water picks up carbon dioxide[CO2] from the air and earth it passes through. CO2 picked up in water becomes H2CO3, better known as hydrogen carbonate. As calcium carbonate also contains CO2 will the end result be, that you will find 2 H2CO3 for each Ca++. This relationship determines the solubility of calcium carbonate in the water.
This solubility is therefore a question on the balance between the hydrogen carbonate and the calcium ion. If water is heated to more than 60-65 C, the hydrogen carbonate will be forced to leave as the gas carbon dioxid, and this will change the balance, the solubility will decline, and the calcium will start depositing. That's why the hard water problems always are worst on heating elements of any kind.
This is where Dan Amp water softeners come into the picture. If you can imaging that we can close the calcium ion down [Ca++]" [called controlled crystalyzing], the balance will be displaced to the other side. This gives you a surplus of hydrogen carbonate, as there electrically no longer is a Ca++ partner for the 2 H2CO3. The hydrogen carbonate will now instead start to work on the calcium layer inside the pipe system and slowly the DanAmp water softener removes the layers existing in the pipe system in small quantities. At the same time, the DanAmp water softener will prevent new calcium layers from building. DanAmp K20 can be applied on all types of pipe up to a dimension of 4''.

The most serious problem:
With hard water are the layers inside the pipe system. The calcium layer reduces the water pressure. Hard water also creates other inconviniences such as calcium stains on the sanitary, chrome and tiles which are hard to remove. Last, heating of water can be prolonged because the heating elements are covered with a calcium layer. This layer works as insulation and gives you an extra energy consumption.
